VIENNA - saint Alexander, an European actor, vocaliser and entertainer who was revered both at bag and in neighboring Germany, has died, his spokeswoman said Sunday. He was 84.

The grapheme who symbolized the convey of laughter, lightheartedness and the scheme upswing after World War II passed away Saturday, Erika Swatosch addicted to The Associated Press. She did not wage more details.

Since the 1950s, herb appeared in whatever 50 flick comedies and recorded more than 120 records. He was also a lawful on TV for decades. Known as "Peter the Great" by his fans, his name was synonymous with European charm and wit.

Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann lauded herb as a "great Austrian."

"As an artist, saint herb prefabricated generations of grouping bright — both at bag and abroad," Faymann said in a statement.

Culture Minister Claudia Schmied, meanwhile, said herb was a pioneer of German language TV entertainment.

"Austria is losing a great actor, vocaliser and entertainer," Schmied said.
